Expectancy

Do we really expect God to do anything big? When I think of expecting a pregnant lady comes to mind. The minute she finds out she is pregnant she begins planning for delivery day. The nursery has to be prepared. She begins to buy clothes. Other people begin to have showers with many gifts. No one ever doubts there is a baby coming. Why? She is expecting. What are you expecting God to do? In your life? Your family? Your church? Your finance? Believe the promises of God.


Psalms 37:5 Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him, and he will act.


Go ahead and plan for God to do His perfect will. Expect it.

Commitment or Covenant?

Has commitment ever scared the daylights out of you (do you ever wonder where sayings like that come from?). Maybe it was marriage, having a child, buying a house, a car, a church, or choosing a school. What about Christ? Did it scare you to commit to Him through salvation? Our culture seems to have weakened the word commitment. Merriam-Webster (M-W) defines commitment as “an agreement or pledge to do something in the future”. Now here is an interesting find (I sure someone can find me wrong) but in the ESV I cannot find the word commitment. Now what I did find was the word covenant. M-W defines covenant as “a usually formal, solemn, and binding agreement”. That is the word we need to use. I think man of us have made commitments to Christ and very few covenants. We see covenant in the Old Testament about 281 times and in the New Testament 31 times. God established a covenant relationship with believers through the blood of Jesus Christ (Luke 20:22). The New Covenant that came through Christ was a covenant that included forgiveness (Rom 11:27). The Holy Spirit was a covenant promise (Acts 1:4-5). The New Covenant is about life (John 10:10). Here is the great part of our covenant relationship with God through Christ. He never breaks a covenant. He will never leave the believer (Heb 13:5). He will never let you out of His hand (John 10:27-29). Let us consider our part of this covenant relationship. When we pass through the blood we enter into a covenant relationship with Christ. Take it serious.
